Sa seals switch to Maccabi Tel Aviv

Out of favour Reading forward, Orlando Sa, has completed a £600,000 move to Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Around midday on Tuesday, the transfer was confirmed when Orlando Sa tweeted “I would like to thank my team mates and fans at Reading FC and wish them all the best for the future @ReadingFC” after days of speculation surrounding the frontman’s future.

Since the transfer window opened, there had been question marks over the future of Sa at Reading with reported interest from both Club Brugge and Gus Poyet’s AEK Athens. However, it is Maccabi Tel Aviv who have swooped in and secured Sa’s signature.

The Portuguese man has hardly been prolific since his summer move to Reading, scoring only 5 goals and none since October.

However, many fans have warmed to him due to his commitment and effort in the games he has played. McDermott now feels it is time for the striker to move on having failed to make any kind of contribution or impact since McDermott returned to the helm at the Madejski Stadium.

With the deal costing £600,000 for Maccabi, there is now some cash in the bank for the Royals to play with, along with the majority of the £3 million they managed to get for Nick Blackman earlier on in the window.

So, the Royals fanbase will be expecting the owners to get their wallets out and bring in a replacement for Sa, with Latvian Deniss Rakels and in form Tom Bradshaw both reportedly on the Berkshire clubs radar.

Reading have desperately lacked goals pretty much all season with Nick Blackman the only real talisman the Royals had before his move to Derby County. So, it is vital for Reading to bring in a goal scorer to accompany Matej Vydra and Yann Kermorgant if Reading are going to mount any form of a play off push.
