Reading close in on Latvian Striker

After the acquisitions of George Evans and Yann Kermorgant, the Royals are closing in on their 3rd signing of the month, Latvian striker Deniss Rakels from Polish side Cracovia, according to GetReading.co.uk and the Polish media.

McDermott has already stated before the window that he wanted to strengthen the squad in certain areas, and so far he has lived up to that promise with the signings of Man City youngster George Evans and Bournemouth fans favourite, Yann Kermorgant.

Evans has been brought in on a 3-and-a-half year deal, and McDermott has admitted that he watched Evans a few times whilst he was a scout for Arsenal. Evans was free transfer, however it didn’t take long for the Thais to get their wallets out and splash out £500,000 on 34-year-old Kermorgant, who played a vital part and scored 17 goals in Bournemouth’s promotion season last campaign.

If the rumours are to be true, the Royals are set to spend another £500,00 on Latvian international Deniss Rakels who has impressed for Polish side Cracovia Krakow, in his short time at the club. Peterborough owner, Darren McAnthony revealed on twitter that Reading were extremely interested in Conor Washington before he sealed a move to Queens Park Rangers, and Rakels is apparently McDermott’s Plan B, with some reports even stating that he was on his way to Berkshire for a medical.

This transfer talk has created a lot of skepticism around the Royals fanbase, with many fans feeling that they should have broke the bank to gain the services of Washington rather than spend a fair lump for cash on an unknown, unproven striker. However, time will tell whether Rakels gets his move to the Berkshire outfit and if he does, whether he will make the impact he will be hoping for.
