Bristol City loan Rams defender

Derby County centre half Alex Pearce has joined managerless Bristol City on a loan deal until the end of the season according to the Derby Telegraph.

The experienced 27 year old joined The Rams from Reading in the summer but has struggled to break the defensive partnership of Richard Keogh and Jason Shackell at Pride Park and has made just 2 appearances for Paul Clement’s side.

Pearce joins a Bristol City side who are currently fighting for their lives in the Championship relegation zone. The Robins have a -22 goal difference which hasn’t been helped by a record of just a single clean sheet in their last 12 matches.

The centre half is eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland and it is understood that the player is desparate for game time to improve his chances of a place in Martin O’Neill’s squad for the European Championships in the summer. Pearce is out of favour at current club Derby County.

Pearce started his career as a youngster with Reading and went on to make 240 appearances for The Royals scoring 15 goals in an eight year senior spell at the club.

The defender is no stranger to loan spells having enjoyed temporary moves to Northampton Town, Bournemouth, Norwich City and Southampton during his time at Reading.
