Brentford’s James Tarkowski, pursued by Burnley, was due to face his suitors in tonight’s game at Griffin Park. With interest from the Clarets, the Brentford central defender reported himself unavailable to play, despite being named in the starting line-up.

With Tarkowski’s one-man strike, the Bees were left with no other option than to drop him from the match day squad, the club then beginning an internal disciplonary procedure against the player – the outcome of which will remain confidential.

The club released a statement saying,

“James Tarkowski will be the subject of internal disciplinary action after telling Head Coach Dean Smith that he did not wish to play against Burnley in tonight’s Sky Bet Championship match.

Following discussions with Smith, Tarkowski declared himself unavailable for the fixture despite being selected in the starting line-up. As a result of these actions, he will be disciplined by the club.

Any resulting sanction will remain confidential and the Club will make no further comment on potential punishment.”

With such a show of what some could term ‘disloyalty’, fans would be understandably angry at the situation – one made worse wit hBrentford losing 3-0 at half-time.
