Port Vale trial former Liverpool winger

Former Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur winger Jason Banton is currently on trial at Port Vale with a view to a move to the club, according to The Stoke Sentinel.

The winger is currently under contract with Wycombe Wanderers until the end of this season but isn’t in the first-team plans at the club at the moment.  Banton has therefore been allowed to go to Port Vale on trial with a view to a loan move or free transfer.

Banton has spent time with some of the country’s top clubs in his career so far, but failed to properly establish himself at any of them.  The winger began his youth career at Arsenal and also spent time at Tottenham Hotspur, Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool.

Moves to Leicester City and Crystal Palace also didn’t work out before Banton signed for Plymouth Argyle in 2014.  After being released at the end of last season, the winger was signed by Wycombe Wanderers.

Banton spent time on loan with Hartlepool United earlier this season after finding first-team opportunities at Wycombe limited but this loan spell was cut short.

Port Vale manager Rob Page will decide next week whether to sign Banton or not, but has commented that the winger has impressed so far.
