Watt to turn Cardiff loan permanent

Tony Watt will turn his loan move from Charlton Athletic to Cardiff City into a permanent transfer this week. That is the exclusive news that has been revealed by South London Today. The Scottish striker has impressed during his time on loan with the Welsh club.

The 22-year-old former Celtic forward has scored twice in eight games for the Bluebirds but has also provided a real creative influence to the team. His mazy and tricky runs after dropping deep have been one of the few bright sparks for the Cardiff fans to enjoy of late. Sunday’s FA Cup defeat to Shrewsbury Town heaped the pressure on manager Russell Slade.

Although it was largely reported to be a £1million deal that would see Watt swap The Valley for the Cardiff City Stadium, the overall deal is believed to be double that figure. The transfer isn’t expected to be completed before tomorrow evening’s trip to Hull City in the Championship.

Although it is unclear if that money will be put back into Charlton’s potential spend to strengthen their own squad this month, it is clear that Cardiff have signed themselves a very good footballer.

He rose to fame during his time in Scotland with Celtic, with the winning goal in a 2-1 Champions League victory over Barcelona being the obvious highlight. A spell in Belgium followed with Lierse SK and then Standard Liege before moving to England with the Addicks in January 2015. He did start the season in the Charlton team under then-manager Guy Luzon, with his final game coming in November.
