Bristol City set to sign loan goalkeeper

Bristol City will sign a goalkeeper on a loan deal prior to Tuesday night’s crucial Championship clash with Preston North End at Ashton Gate, according to The Bristol Post.

The Robins’ number 1 stopper Frank Fielding picked up a rib injury in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup Third Round and is expected to be out for several weeks. Fielding has damaged intercostal muscles on his side and is in some discomfort.

Young goalkeeper Max O’Leary made his senior debut at The Hawthorns after replacing the injured Fielding but it is understood that City Manager Steve Cotterill is not ready to put complete faith in O’Leary and is seeking a temporary loan solution to the problem.

Earlier this season Bristol City signed Leicester City goalkeeper Ben Hamer on a season long loan but Hamer returned to The King Power Stadium after failing to nail down a regular first team spot and The Robins have since been short of experienced goalkeeping cover.

Steve Cotterill’s side face a huge home clash with Preston North End at Ashton Gate on Tuesday evening with the home side in desparate need of league points having slipped back into the relegation zone in recent weeks.
