Brentford v Middlesbrough – Match Preview

Championship leaders Middlesbrough face a tough trip to West London on Tuesday evening to face promotion chasing Brentford.

Both clubs lost their respective FA Cup Third Round ties on Saturday however the cup defeats will no doubt be banished from both clubs’ minds with promotion to the promised land of the Premier League the top priority.

Brentford Manager Dean Smith rested 5 first team players for Saturday’s home defeat to Walsall but those rested could all return for The Bees’ huge league clash.

The Bees could be without midfielder Jota who is struggling with a calf problem while Andreas Bjelland and Scott Hogan definitely miss out with knee injuries.

Middlesbrough Manager Aitor Karanka rested 7 key players for Saturday’s home cup defeat to Burnley and those players are set to be recalled.

Boro are without defenders Fernando Amorebieta (ankle), Jonathan Woodgate (back), Alex Baptiste (leg) and Damia Abella (knee).

Boro have an excellent recent record against the West London club having won the last 8 league matches against The Bees. Brentford were defeated by the Teessiders in last season’s Championship Play Off Semi Finals.

Middlesbrough are currently top of the Championship with the best defensive record in the league. Boro have kept 8 consecutive league clean sheets.
