QPR chase loan signing of Palace striker

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink hopes to boost his QPR squad this January with the signing of Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle according to Get West London. The R’s are lining up a loan move as they look to find another goalscorer other than Charlie Austin.

Austin has been out of action recently through injury and the goals have started to dry up for QPR. Hasselbaink is more than aware of this and knows that they need more than Sebastian Polter and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas as options up front, in addition to Austin. There is still the chance Austin could leave Loftus Road this month, so Hasselbaink definitely needs a new forward.

Jamie Mackie is also another option, but he has only just returned from a long-term injury. 26-year-old Gayle has found it hard to command regular football at Selhurst Park in recent times. Ever since signing from Peterborough United in July 2013, he has mostly been in and out of the side. Over the summer it was believed that Bristol City were closing in on his signature, but that deal quickly died down.

Gayle certainly knows where the back of the net is and considering the high-tempo game that Hasselbaink wishes to play with QPR, then the strikers’ pace and energy would certainly compliment that. He would receive plenty of service from the likes of Matty Phillips and Junior Hoilett, and a switch to a fellow London club would be a decent move for him. He needs football, QPR need a striker. It seems too simple to ‘just happen’, but it might.
