Middlesbrough ready to sell striker for £2 million

Middlesbrough are ready to sell striker Kike for a fee of around £2 million should a club come in for him, according to The Sun.

Kike has made 17 appearances for Middlesbrough this season but eight of those appearances have been off the bench, with the striker failing to hold down a regular first-team position.  With the club reportedly looking to sign another striker this month, boss Aitor Karanka is ready to let Kike leave.

Kike was signed for the club by Karanka in July 2014 and has 15 goals in 53 league appearances overall.  Only four of those goals have come this season however.

Another factor in the decision to allow Kike to leave is believed to be Middlesbrough’s interest in Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes.

With speculation of the club bidding £10+ million for Rhodes, the sale of Kike would definitely help fund a move for Blackburn’s main attacking threat.

With Middlesbrough failing in their attempts to sign Rhodes last summer, and with Blackburn now out of their transfer embargo, it could be argued that Karanka and his club have missed their best chance to sign the striker.
