Stoke midfielder linked with loan move to former clubs

Out-of-favour Stoke City midfielder Steve Sidwell is being linked with loan moves to two of his former clubs according to Sky Sports. Championship sides Reading and Fulham have expressed in interest in bringing the energetic performer back to their respective clubs.

However it is being reported that wages could be a potential reason for now deal taking place. It is believed that Reading and Fulham will only pursue a move if the Potters agree to pay at least a significant percentage of the players’ wages during the loan spell.

The 33-year-old moved to the Britannia Stadium following a three-year spell at Craven Cottage where he played just under 100 times for the club. However since moving to Staffordshire in July 2014 he has only started five Premier League games. He did appear yesterday in the FA Cup victory over Doncaster Rovers, but only as a very late substitute.

Eight years ago Aston Villa paid £5million to prize him away from reigning Premier League champions Chelsea after just one season with the club. Prior to this he played over 150 times during a highly-successful spell with the Royals. He won the Championship Title with the Madejski Stadium club in 2006.

The player hasn’t played in the Championship since the year he won the title with Reading, spending the rest of his career so far in the top flight. However with games proving hard to come by with Mark Hughes’ side, he may now be best served dropping a division to play more games, whilst also returning to a club he will now very well.
