Notts County appoint Jamie Fullarton as manager

Jamie Fullarton has been appointed as the new first-team manager of League Two side Notts County. He has held coaching roles at Crystal Palace, Bolton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest, but this is his first job as a manager. He starts his new role from tomorrow.

The 41-year-old was invited for a second interview earlier in the week and after discussions yesterday, the Notts County board have offered him the role. His first game will be next weekend’s trip to Crawley Town and shall be looking to improve on the Magpies’ league standing of 18th place.

Fullarton couldn’t hide his pride at being appointed to a club ‘laced with history and tradition’ and cannot wait to get started,

“I am delighted and excited by the prospect of managing such a great club as Notts County, laced with history and tradition. To manage a club which has in place an infrastructure, strategy and vision off the pitch that provides a genuine opportunity to be successful on the pitch is a fantastic foundation to build upon.”

Chairman Ray Trew believes that they have appointed someone who is set for a very bright future in football management and has never been more impressed in an interview by any other individual other than Fullarton,

“I don’t think I have ever been as impressed as someone at an interview as I was by Jamie. He had us all captivated throughout what turned out to be a lengthy assessment of his suitability for the role.

I’ve got to stress that we had an incredibly high standard of applicant for the vacancy, some of whom were unable to commit to the role to the level we were looking for and some who gave us plenty to think about when it came to conducting the interviews.

However, when Jamie came in for his interview we all agreed that he stood out as the man that we wanted to take on this exciting challenge, with his meticulous attention to detail and his mix of self-awareness and self-assurance shining through.”

Trew also accepted that many will feel that is very much a gamble appointment. Some County fans have also highlighted similar circumstances to when Ricardo Moniz was appointed to the job last season. However Trew believes this is the right move, at the right time,

“I don’t see this as a gamble. I know that I may have become known for my impulsive decisions at times, by this certainly isn’t one, this was a unilaterally agreed decision by the board.”

Fullarton officially takes charge from tomorrow and will be getting to know his players, implement his own ideas, as well as potentially dipping into the transfer market before taking to the dugout at Crawley next Saturday.
