Oxford United linked with move for Addicks striker

Oxford United have been linked with a move for Charlton Athletic striker Joe Pigott according to The Oxford Mail.

The 22 year old Maidstone born forward had a successful loan spell at Southend United last season where he scored 7 goals in 23 appearances to help guide The Shrimpers to promotion to League 1 after beating Wycombe Wanderers in the Play Off Final at Wembley.

He rejoined the Essex club on loan in August with a view to a permanent deal but after scoring 5 goals in 13 starts for Phil Brown’s side the striker recently fell out of favour at the club resulting in a return to parent club Charlton Athletic.

Any return to Roots Hall now looks dead in the water after Southend United signed striker Tyrone Barnett on loan from Shrewsbury Town this week and Oxford United have now been linked with a move for the striker as the club look to win automatic promotion to League 1.

It is understood that Oxford United Manager Michael Appleton could be on the look out for a new striker with talismanic forward Danny Hylton having scored just 6 goals in 23 appearances this season and seemingly now out of favour at The Kassam Stadium.

It is not known whether United would make a permanent or loan move for the young striker.
