Burnley full back joins York City on loan

York City have signed right back Luke Hendrie on a loan deal from Championship high flyers Burnley, according to The Minstermen’s official club website.

The 21 year old joins City on a loan deal until the end of January and is seen as a replacement for previous loanee right back Stefan O’Connor who returned to parent club Arsenal through injury.

Hendrie started his career as a youngster at Bradford City before joining Manchester United for whom he signed a one year professional deal but failed to make the grade at Old Trafford. The youngster moved on to Derby County in the summer of 2013 before his move to Turf Moor last summer.

The right back joined York City’s League 2 rivals Hartlepool United on loan earlier this season making 3 appearances at Victoria Park but has played most of his football this season for Burnley’s Under 21 side. Hendrie has international honours to his name having represented England at Under 16 and Under 17 levels.

The youngster was born in Leeds and is the son of former Middlesbrough striker John Hendrie and a second cousin of former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie.

The right back goes straight into the City squad for next Saturday’s home fixture with Newport County.
