Wigan to make Boro Dutchman loan move permanent

The Northern Echo is reporting that Yanic Wildschut is closing in on a permanent transfer from Middlesbrough to Wigan Athletic. His loan spell with the League One club has expired, but Boro are prepared to let him move on.

The 24-year-old Dutchman plied his trade in Holland with FC Zwolle, VVV-Venlo and then SC Heerenveen before moving to Riverside Stadium on a two-year deal in September 2014. However since moving to DW Stadium in October 2015 he caused havoc to plenty of League One defences.

The deal itself is expected to rise to £1million if the additional clauses are met. It is believed that fee itself will be handed over in a series of instalments, rather than an upfront sum.

Gary Caldwell believes that the player respects the club for providing him with a platform to perform on and expects him to be a big part of their promotion bid back into the Championship,

“The fans have seen the excitement he brings to the team. We’ve helped his career. I don’t’ think it was going anywhere at Middlesbrough, and we gave him a home, an opportunity to show his talent.

He did it in a great way, and bought into what we were trying to do at the club. He enjoyed his spell here- we want him back, and he wants to come back.”

Wildschut still has time left on his current Middlesbrough contract, but he is expected to agree to a suitable compensation package that would then allow Wigan to step in and sign him up.
