Queens Park Rangers and Ipswich Town are looking into the prospect of signing Cagliari defender Dario Del Fabro according to HITC Sport. The 20-year-old had a brief spell on loan at Leeds United last season, only playing once.
Del Fabro is currently out on loan at Italian Serie B side Ascoli and said to be putting in a string of impressive performances. This had ultimately led to interest in him extending, especially now the January transfer window is open for business.
The youngster does have experience of playing in the Italian top flight from his time at Cagliari, so any club signing him certainly wouldn’t be bringing a naïve rookie into their squad.
The Italian Under-20 international featured for Leeds in their FA Cup tie against Sunderland last season, a game where Neil Redfearn’s side fell to a 1-0 defeat.
It is no secret that Mick McCarthy and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink are looking to strengthen their squads this month. The Italian centre back would certainly boost options within their respective squads and his brief, albeit very brief, knowledge of the Championship would at least give him a head-start in comparison to most other foreign recruits.
Any potential deal would depend on parent club Cagliari recalling Del Fabro from his loan this month, in order for a loan move away to be sanctioned. It is perhaps more likely that Cagliari would only entertain a loan move, unless a suitable price can be agreed between both parties.
