Birmingham City are reportedly trying to sign Will Buckley as a replacement for Demarai Gray, according to Shoot.

Highly rated 19 year old Gray left The Blues earlier this week to sign for surprise Premier League title contenders Leicester City, after they met the release clause in his contract.

Birmingham boss Gary Rowett is keen to find a replacement for Gray, especially after allowing winger Mark Duffy to remain at League One Burton on loan.

The Blues boss is apparently keen to secure a deal for Buckley, who has struggled to make an impact in the top flight for Sunderland.

The 26 year old made the switch from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2014 and spent time on loan at Leeds United earlier this campaign.

However, he is now available in January and Birmingham are targeting him as their Gray replacement.

He has made 22 appearances for Sunderland, although his career at the top flight club appears to be at an end. It is not yet known if Rowett is looking to sign Buckley on loan or on a permanent deal.

Birmingham have had a strong first half of the campaign and are targeting a play off spot in the Sky Bet Championship. They currently lie eighth in the second tier, just two points off Ipswich who are sixth.
