Blackburn hope to pinch Bennett ahead of Bristol City

Blackburn Rovers are leading the race to sign Norwich City wide-man Elliott Bennett on loan according to TEAMtalk.com. He has just returned after a loan spell at Bristol City, who also hope to re-sign him until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old quickly established himself as a regular during his time at Ashton Gate, making the right-wing-back berth slot his own and keeping Mark Little restricted to a place on the bench. Although Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill confirmed that he is hoping to extend that deal, Paul Lambert is also another admirer of his.

The pair previously worked together when Lambert was in charge at Carrow Road. That could potentially be the determining factor which decides where Bennett would like to play his football for the remainder of the campaign.

Bennett’s Norwich contract also runs out at the end of this season and it is highly-likely that he will not be offered fresh terms. Therefore he is not only playing for his immediate future, but he is potentially chasing some long-term security as well.

There are surely bound to be more clubs in the running to sign Bennett, although it is quite clear that sources indicate Bennett is more likely to resume his partnership with Lambert at Ewood Park.
