Vydra, Reading FC: McDermott talks Matej Vydra

Reading FC: McDermott talks Matej Vydra

After arriving at the Madejski stadium on Deadline Day in September, a lot of expectation was put on Vydra’s shoulders to score the goals that could propel Reading to the Premier League.

However, after only 2 goals all season, the Czech international has come under fire from a section of the Reading faithful. In an interview with GetReading.co.uk, Brian McDermott has expressed his delight with the striker.

McDermott said that even though he Vydra isn’t necessarily scoring goals at the moment, he is “putting himself on the line” which he feels is the “most important thing”.

Vydra was expected to score much more than the two he has got this season, and his lack of goals is adding to his increasingly obvious lack of confidence.

However, as a Reading fan myself, he still shows 2 or 3 touches of Premier League class every game, and McDermott expects him to find his goalscoring touch sooner rather than later.

McDermott also went on to compare what Vydra is doing now, to how cult-hero Shane Long began his Reading career.

He claimed that there was “never a chance” that he was going to leave out Shane Long even though he went 15 games without a goal, and he says he feels the same about the Matej Vydra situation now, saying that what Vydra is doing for the team is “phenomenal”.

With the latest news developing that Nick Blackman may be on his way out of the Madejski Stadium, McDermott and the Reading fans will be hoping that Vydra starts to find his goalscoring touch to help boost Reading back into the promotion mix.

You feel that if Vydra gets one or two, he will start scoring on a much more regular basis which is only a good thing for the Royals.
