According to a tweet from Sky Sports News presenter, David Garrido, Reading have accepted a bid for striker Nick Blackman, from fellow promotion chasing Sheffield Wednesday.
The news rolled in on Tuesday morning, only 2 days after Blackman scored a crucial late winner against Bristol City on Saturday.
Blackman has been in sensational form this season with 12 league goals in 25 games, as he boosted Reading to 2nd in the table in October. His temporary drop in form was a main reason for Reading’s drop in form but in recent games he has started finding his touch again with goals against Hull and Bristol City.
Blackman signed for Reading in the January transfer window of 2013 from Sheffield United, and many fans believe he has rarely lived up to his £1.4 million price tag that McDermott splashed out on him.
However, his performances this season have stood out from everybody else at Reading this season, even in games the Royals have lost, Blackman has usually been the star performer, and many fans will feel that if Reading are going to get a play off position this season, they will need Blackman’s goals.
McDermott has spoke previously about his want for a team rather than a team of individuals and egos, and Nick Blackman is notorious for his ego and arrogance.
This may have something to do with why McDermott has supposedly accepted a bid for him, but he will be a big loss if he does go to Sheffield Wednesday as he is a vital cog in the Reading machine.
It will become clearer over the next few days whether this rumour has any truth in it but if it does Reading will need to replace the goals that Blackman has brought this season, which nowadays is an extremely hard thing to do.
