Middlesbrough cemented their place at the top of the championship table following a crucial 2-0 victory over promotion chasers derby.

The much anticipated affair, branded as “Match of the Season” by many looked to be heading for a stalemate finish until Albert Adomah popped up in the 83 minute with a rifling strike that hit the roof of the net, only for George Friend to double their lead with a point-blank range effort, and secure a very important three points for The Reds.

Boro now comfortably sit four points ahead of The Rams at the top of the table, and look set for promotion at the end of the season.
