Ipswich Town sign promising Barnsley midfielder

Championship side Ipswich Town have made their first signing of the January transfer window with the addition of Barnsley midfielder Paul Digby, who joins on loan until the end of the season, the club have announced.

The 20-year-old only has featured a total of 25 times for Barnsley in League One and the Championship and is also capped internationally for England at under-19 and under-20 level.

Despite this, he has only managed to make three appearances for Barnsley this season.

Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy stated that his side doesn’t need many new faces this window, but has moved quickly to secure the signature of Digby.

The youngster has travelled with the squad to Burnley for their fixture today but won’t be featuring in the game.

It is unclear at this stage whether or not Ipswich are using the loan deal as time to assess the midfielder ahead of a potential permanent move in the summer.
