Evans states Byram ‘out of the equation’ if he fails to sign contract

Leeds United Head Coach Steve Evans has stated that youngster Sam Byram must sign the new contract offered to him in January or he is ‘out of the equation’, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.

Byram is out of contract in the summer and has been offered two new deals by the club. The offers were reportedly offering less or the same wages that he is currently on and the 22-year-old has refused to sign any deal.

The right-back/midfielder made his return to the first team in last week’s 3-2 victory against Wolves, where he managed to get onto the score sheet twice.

His refusal to sign a new deal has presented Evans with a dilemma. Speaking to the press on Wednesday morning, the Leeds boss is quoted as saying “Sam Byram has to be signing a new contract in January or he goes out of the equation, it’s that simple.”

In his time at Leeds United, Byram has established himself as a first team regular since making his debut in 2012. In total, he has made 138 appearances for the Whites, scoring nine and assisting 11.

Byram will be looking to retain a spot in the travelling squad when Leeds visit Nottingham Forest for the fixture on December 27th.
