Premier League clubs in for Charlton youngster

Metro is reporting that Liverpool have become the latest club to express an interest in Charlton Athletic forward Ademola Lookman. The 18-year-old has already caught the eye of Arsenal, Chelsea and Southampton after a breakthrough season with The Addicks.

It was only a year or so ago that the youngster was plying his trade with Waterloo FC, before being spotted by a Charlton Academy scout. However it would now appear that Premier League scouts are tracking his progress, if not for a potential move in January but certainly come the end of the season.

News Shopper recently reported that Liverpool and Southampton scouts descended onto The Valley to watch Lookman participate in a Championship clash against Burnley, only for him to miss out with a hamstring injury. His hamstring problem is certainly an issue for Lookman, with interim manager Karel Fraeye indicating recently that his hamstrings ‘need managing’.

Joe Gomez made the move from Charlton to Liverpool over the summer, and immediately broke into the starting eleven under then Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers. Lookman certainly will want to push himself to play at the highest possible level, but Under-21 manager Jason Euell told South London Today that he has his feet firmly on the ground,

“He just loves playing football. If we do certain sessions or we finish and Ademola feels he hasn’t done enough for the day – we don’t want to risk him getting injured – he sulks.

That’s natural for him, because he just wants to play football all the time – U18, U21 or first-team.”

Although Charlton struggle in the Championship, Lookman is certainly one of the shining lights so far this season. He has instantly become a fans favourite with The Valley faithful, but even they must already be slightly resigned to the prospect of him leaving to a bigger club in the not too distant future.
