Alan Shearer has road named after him

Alan Shearer, former Newcastle and England International has today unveiled a street named after him in the town of his other ex-employees, Blackburn Rovers.

The street, Alan Shearer Way, is located just outside of the club’s stadium Ewood Park, and bears the Blackburn badge on its street sign.

Shearer, who famously won the Premier league with the side in 1995, has said that he is truly honoured.

“It’s a great honour, I never imagined that when I signed in ’92 there’d be Alan Shearer Way just outside Ewood Park. It’s tremendous,” he told ITV’s David Chisnall.

“I’ll have to drive my kids round here to show them what really happened,” he continued.

Upon reflecting on the four seasons that he spent with Rovers, Shearer payed his respects for the club. “We had one hell of a team. One hell of an owner, and unbelievable manager that gave us great believe that we could take on the big boys.”

The star striker is guest of honour at todays match against Nottingham Forest, and a win would Rovers a point adrift of the play off positions.

Blackburn scraped a 1-0 home victory against struggloing Rotherham on friday, and will surely have to be at their best in order to beat an in form Forest side.
