Derby County look set to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of 16-year-old Cheltenham youngster Luke Thomas, according to TEAMtalk.com.

The youngster has impressed a number of clubs across England and he even had a trial with Portuguese giants Benfica in the summer.

Thomas has yet to come off the bench for the non-league side’s first team this season but has scored 17 goals for the club’s Under-18s side this campaign.

Teams from both the Premier League and Championship have scouted the teenager in recent months, with both Tottenham and Southampton linked with a move, but it is suggested that the Rams look set to beat them all to the punch.

Derby had reportedly seen an earlier bid rejected for Thomas but the club believe that they can tempt Cheltenham with an improved offer and look to bring the 16-year-old to the iPro Stadium sometime in January.

In the meantime, Paul Clement’s side will be focused on their game against Bristol City tomorrow evening.
