Massimo Cellino acquitted in latest court case

Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino has been acquitted of tax evasion in his latest case in Italian court, according to reports in Italy.

This case was about possible tax evasion in regards to the transfer of two Cagliari players in 2007. The Italian faced a fine of €720,000 (£520,000) if he was found guilty.

Reports say that a change in the law, introduced in October, results in Cellino’s offence no longer being punishable in court. Cellino’s lawyer, Giovanni Cocco, argued the fact that is was not a part of the new law and now the 59-year-old will face no further charges in relation to this case.

The Leeds United owner is still waiting on court cases in relation to the alleged payment of £185,000 to an unlicensed agent during the Ross McCormack transfer, the alleged illegal third party ownership of attacking midfielder Adryan who joined on-loan last season and an alleged unfair dismissal case brought against the club by former Academy employee Lucy Ward.

On the pitch, Cellino’s Leeds United travel to Charlton Athletic on Saturday for their Championship fixture.
