Reading, Reading to bring back McDermott

Reading to bring back McDermott

Brian McDermott is set to make an incredible return to Reading, the BBC reports.

The 54-year-old led The Royals to the Premier League in 2012 during his last spell in charge and it is believed that he will return to The Madejski Stadium, after leaving the club in the Premier League relegation zone in March 2013.

McDermott will replace Steve Clarke, who was sacked by the Berkshire club last week after Reading’s continued poor form saw them fall further adrift of The Championship play off places.

McDermott, who spent three largely successful years in charge at The Madejski, has since worked for Leeds United and Arsenal since his sacking.

He spent 13 months in charge at Elland Road before being sacked when Massimo Cellino took over and then took up a scouting role at Premier League giants Arsenal last year.

McDermott first joined Reading as Chief Scout in 2000, when the club were managed by now Palace boss Alan Pardew.

He had previously managed non-league sides Slough and Woking but then went on to make a real name for himself at Reading, who he now looks set to return too.

The Royals have been in disappointing form recently, dropping to 11th in the Sky Bet Championship.

Despite this, the club remain just two points off the play off places and will be hoping that the return of McDermott can see him repeat the feat he achieved in 2012, where he took the club to the promised Premier League.
