Preston holds talks with Middlesbrough over winger

Preston and Middlesbrough have spoken about extending Adam Reach’s loan spell at Deepdale, according to the Gazette Live.

Current PNE boss Simon Grayson has confessed that the two clubs have spoken about the player ahead of the January transfer window in the hopes of keeping him with the Lilywhites.

The winger has been on loan at Deepdale for nearly three months now and his current deal would only see him stay with Preston until January. However, PNE are keen to keep hold of him and are eager to extend the deal until later in the season, if not until the end of the current campaign.

This is because he has put in a number of superb performances for the Lilywhites during his time there, with the left-sided player featuring prominently as a LWB for the club.

But, these performances haven’t gone unnoticed by his parent club Middlesbrough and their fans, with many hoping he turns down the chance to stay with the Lilywhites and instead returns to the Riverside and starts playing first-team football for ‘Boro.

Carlos De Pena, who is currently filling the position Reach would fill at Middlesbrough, is yet to shine for the club and they could instead bring Reach back and play him instead.

It would be a blow to PNE, with the player having become a key part of the squad and boss Simon Grayson would hope that he could at least finish their first campaign back in the Championship with them.

Speaking about the 22-year old, Grayson said: “We have had a little bit of dialogue with Middlesbrough to see what they are thinking of doing with Adam.

“I think it’s probably a little too early for clubs who are loaning their players out to commit to what they are going to do. There is always a lot of dialogue between clubs about certain players whether it’s loan deals or permanent deals.

“A lot of that information will not become public until January.”

So, despite talks being held, it looks like we will have to wait until January to see what the fate of the winger will be – will he remain at Deepdale or will he return to Middlesbrough?
