Clayton to miss four months

Bolton Wanderers forward Max Clayton could miss up to four months after having surgery on a hamstring injury, the BBC reports.

Clayton suffered the injury in Boltons 1-1 draw with Brentford last week and had to be carried off the pitch at the Macron Stadium.

The 21-year-old was a highly rated youngster at Crewe Alexandra, having come through the Cheshire clubs famed academy.

He signed for Bolton last season for a compensation fee of £300,000 but had to undergo surgery on his right knee, ruling him out for six months.

He only recovered this September and had started five games for Wanderers, who lie bottom of The Sky Bet Championship, before his latest injury setback.

Manager Neil Lennon told the clubs official website: “It’s a blow for Max and of course for the squad.”

“He’s a great lad and we’ll be with him every step of the way throughout his recovery period.”

The injury is a bitter blow to Bolton who have struggled massively this campaign and currently lie in rock bottom 24th place in the Sky Bet Championship, four points off 21st placed Bristol City.
