Vardy to take keen interest in Fylde coast derby

Premier League top scorer Jamie Vardy will take a keen interest in tomorrow’s Fylde Coast derby between Fleetwood and Blackpool, according to Fleetwood Today.

Vardy has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top of the Premier League’s scoring charts, equalling Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record of scoring in 10 consecutive games along the way.

He will have the opportunity to break that record tomorrow when his side Leicester City host Manchester United, the team for which Van Nistelrooy achieved the feat.

However, it was a goal in the FA Cup the last time Fleetwood and Blackpool met which thrust the now 28 year old into the spotlight and helped earn him a million pound move to then Championship Leicester just six months later.

Vardy had a superb spell at Fleetwood, helping them climb out of the Conference and into the Football League for the first time in their history.

The club have continued to go from strength to strength and tomorrow face local rivals Blackpool in a league game, something which seemed incomprehensible just a few years ago.

Vardy said:  “As soon as we finish our games on a Saturday we get the scores up on the big screens and I always check for Fleetwood’s results.

“My time at Fleetwood was the start of things to come for me and the club, because they’re enjoying life in League One now – promotions through the divisions was something I always expected the club to achieve.”

Fleetwood currently lie 17th in League One, whilst Blackpool occupy 23rd place and are three points away from escaping the relegation zone.
