QPR identify Burton boss as number one target

Evening Standard is reporting that Queens Park Rangers has identified Burton Albion’s Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as their number one managerial target. Today, he has been made the odds-on favourite to succeed Chris Ramsay, who was sacked a few weeks ago.

A string of names have supposedly been linked to that role, but Evening Standard believes it can significantly dwindle down that list to a degree. Wolves manager Kenny Jackett was briefly touted, as was former boss Ian Holloway. Neither are expected to be approached, although former Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup remains a contender, albeit an outsider.

Journalist Ed Higgs is reporting that The Times believe in addition to Hasselbaink, Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett and ex-Huddersfield Town and Charlton Athletic boss Chris Powell are the names being strongly considered to be installed to the hot seat at Loftus Road.

With Rowett being heavily linked to the vacant position at Championship rivals Fulham, plenty of money has been staked on Hasselbaink ‘getting the gig’. He has enjoyed a meteoric rise in management in his relatively short coaching career, guiding Burton to promotion in the same season he took over.

Burton Mail understands that an official approach from QPR to Burton Albion has yet to be sanctioned. They are of the opinion that QPR are in no real rush to name a new appointment with Neil Warnock remaining at interim head coach. Warnock is expected to remain in charge for this weekend’s game with Leeds United according to Sky Sports, however they believe an appointment could be made next week.
