Brentford interested in Gillingham captain

Brentford are interested in signing Gillingham defender and captain John Egan, according to a report.

Egan has been in superb form for Gillingham this season and has been a key player in getting the team to the top of League One, where they currently sit.  This form has started to attract attention from Championship side Brentford.

Brentford are currently without a manager but are believed to be very interested in the Gillingham captain, 23, who has made 20 appearances for the club in all competitions this season, scoring an impressive four goals.

Egan began his career at Sunderland but failed to make any appearances and was sent out on loan several times.  In 2014 Egan joined Gillingham after being released by Sunderland and had a fantastic first season with the club, making 52 appearances and scoring five goals.

The centre-back also won the club’s Player of the Year award as Gillingham finished in mid-table.

Egan has continued his form this season and may want to test himself at a higher level.  Gillingham will not want to lose their captain and with the club currently top of the league, Egan could be playing in the Championship next season anyway.
