Lambert, Blackburn Rovers appoint Paul Lambert

Blackburn Rovers appoint Paul Lambert

Blackburn Rovers have today appointed Paul Lambert as the side’s new manager, the club’s official website have confirmed.

Lambert joins after much speculation last week that he would be the man to take over from former boss Gary Bowyer.  Bowyer was sacked by owners Venky’s because of a disappointing start to the season, leaving the club 11 points from the play-off places.

Former Norwich City manager Lambert may be just the man to take Rovers up and help achieve Venky’s goal of promotion, as he has previous experience in this regard.  Lambert took Norwich up from League One to the Premier League in only two seasons, and kept the club in the top flight.

Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers and Fulham were also reportedly interested in securing the manager’s services, but Lambert was Blackburn’s main target.

Former Blackburn youth coach Alan Irvine will come in as Lambert’s assistant following his sacking as manager of West Bromwich Albion last year, forming a team looking to close the gap on the play-offs sooner rather than later.

Blackburn owners Venky’s said of the appointment: “We are extremely happy to have secured a manager with the experience that Paul brings. We are confident that he is the right man to achieve the ambitions we have for the club.”

Lambert’s first game is away at Preston North End on Saturday, where over 5,000 Blackburn fans will be waiting to cheer the team on.
