Swindon Town have appointed Sam Jewell, son of former Wigan Athletic manager Paul Jewell, as their new Chief Scout and Head of Recruitment, according to FLIC.
Sam Jewell had been working as an agent for company HN Sports but has now taken up a role at Swindon, where he has been tasked with bringing in a new generation of players to the club.
Martin Ling was announced as the new boss of Swindon Town last week and Jewell’s appointment continues a reshuffle of the backroom staff, with new coaches also being mentioned.
Swindon chairman Lee Power knows Paul Jewell well, with their friendship stretching back to when they played together at Bradford City.
Power told BBC Wiltshire: “We’ve appointed a new Chief Scout, Sam Jewell, the son of Paul Jewell. I’ve known Sam since he was a kid and I’m very close with Paul, we played together at Bradford and stayed friends.
“He (Sam) is a very knowledgeable lad, he wants to progress and it was an area we needed to improve on. We’re delighted he has joined us.”
Paul Jewell was in charge of Wigan Athletic for six years and then Derby County, where he and the club finished the season with a record-low of 11 Premier League points.
More recently Jewell was boss at Ipswich Town, before leaving in 2012 by mutual consent.
