Birmingham City prospect called up to national team

Birmingham City winger Demarai Gray has been called up to the England Under-21 squad by Gary Southgate for the international break this week.

Gray was not in the initial squad for the team’s two European qualifiers this month against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Switzerland but has now been called up after Norwich’s Nathan Redmond withdrew from the squad due to an injury.

Gray has played for England at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 levels and was in Keith Downing’s squad to play for the England Under-20 team against France this week but will now be making a step up to the Under-21 squad.

The winger has been in great form for Birmingham so far, following his breakthrough season for the club last year.  Birmingham currently sit in sixth place in the Championship and Gray is a key player as they look to get promoted.

However Gray’s good form has led to interest from Premier League clubs recently with Tottenham, Leicester and Everton reportedly interested.
