Newcastle United striker joins Barnsley

Newcastle United striker Ivan Toney has joined League One side Barnsley on an initial 28-day loan, according to a report.

The striker began his career with Northampton Town where he made 60 appearances over three years, scoring 13 goals for the club.  Toney’s best spell at the club came last season when he made 44 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring ten goals.

This prompted Premier League side Newcastle to put in an offer for the striker and he joined the Magpies in August 2015 on a long-term deal.

Since signing, Toney has made three appearances for Newcastle.  Two were in the League Cup, with one against his former club.  The other was a substitute appearance against Chelsea.

Barnsley have had a bad start to the season and sit in 22nd place in League One, on a run of seven consecutive defeats in the league.  The club will be hoping that the striker can provide the spark they need to turn their season around.
