A 1-0 away defeat to National League side Altrincham has heaped even more pressure on under-fire Barnsley manager Lee Johnson. Today’s defeat means the Tykes have now lost seven games in a row.
The League One side, who are situated in the relegation places, were on the wrong end of one of the few cup giant-killings today. That in turn will no doubt lead to more Barnsley fans starting to question their manager, who simply cannot buy a win or even a draw at this moment in time.
Alan Biggs, a freelance football reporter, earlier today indicated that former Sheffield Wednesday manager Stuart Gray could be in the running to replace Johnson, with today’s Altrincham defeat potentially a final nail in the coffin for Johnson.
Picked up some grapevine gossip about what might happen if Barnsley lost today…& the name of Stuart Gray was mentioned…could see it…

It is perhaps harsh to heap all of the blame of the recent run of form purely on the manager. A section of supporters are certainly on the opinion that the problems run much deeper than the former Oldham Athletic boss.
Nevertheless, Lee, the son of current Cheltenham boss Gary, will be under no illusions that he is in a results business and recent form isn’t up to scratch. It remains to be seen if a managerial chance is imminent, although vibes would suggest that Johnson is running out of games at the helm of the Oakwell club.
