Free agent Paddy Kenny re-joins Bury

Paddy Kenny has re-joined League One side Bury on a short-term deal, as revealed on their official website. The free agent goalkeeper returns for a second spell, after originally moving to Gigg Lane 17 years ago.

The 37-year-old, who has seven caps for the Republic of Ireland national team, first joined up with Bury back in 1998 from Bradford Park Avenue. He played 150 times for the Gigg Lane club before linking up with Neil Warnock with Sheffield United. In total, he played four times for Neil Warnock, also with Queens Park Rangers and Leeds United.

The Halifax-born keeper has been without a club after a brief stint with Championship side Ipswich Town last season. Earlier this season he spent time training with Port Vale, originally just to maintain his fitness, but he almost earned a short-term deal.

It is during his time with Sheffield United and QPR where he enjoyed the most success. He earned promotion to the Premier League with both clubs and was also part of the PFA Team of the Year in the 2010/11 season. Altogether, Kenny has accumulated 636 professional appearances at every level in the English game.

The number 21 shirt has been allocated to Kenny, who will be hoping to make his second Bury debut over the weekend against Gillingham. Funnily enough, he made his original Bury debut against Gillingham back in August 1999. Manager Dave Flitcroft has acted quickly to sign goalkeeping cover because Daniel Buchanan and John Ruddy have received international call-up’s.
