Lennon defiant on not walking away from Bolton

Neil Lennon has told the BBC that he will not be resigning as Bolton Wanderers manager. He was speaking after last night’s away defeat to Ipswich Town, meaning they are now nine games without a victory.

The Trotters also remain third from bottom of the Championship table and are also the lowest scorers in the division with just ten goals. They went into last night’s encounter at Portman Road against an Ipswich side who themselves were on a poor run of form. However Lennon insists that it isn’t in his nature to walk away,

“I’ll never quit. People are managers lose the dressing room but they’ve got to worry about losing me.

I’m here to fight it out, if the people at the club or the fans want a change, that’s something I can’t control.”

The former Celtic boss maintains that he doesn’t feel under any additional pressure from the club hierarchy and that it is very much business as usual at Macron Stadium,

“I don’t feel under any pressure, but with performances like that people will look at you and ask if you’re doing enough, and that’s the first question I ask myself after every game.”

Lennon believes a lack of transfer funds has certainly been a major factor for their poor start to the season, and although they have made recent signings he says that finances are a massive restriction,

“I can’t change personnel, we’ve tried to, but the finances aren’t there, so we have to work with what we’ve got.

There’s a lack of consistency, there’s enough experience in the team, there should be enough hunger but the basics of defending weren’t there, if we play like that we will get beaten.”

Bolton are situated within the relegation places but four points, with the side directly above them being Bristol City. The two teams meet this weekend, in what could be a pivotal result that may dictate Lennon’s future prior to the international break.
