The72 Football League bankers this weekend

In a slight twist to our usual betting previews, we have decided to help those of you struggling for selections. Therefore, we are focusing on four Football League ‘bankers’ this weekend and this four-fold would certainly bring back a tasty return. We’ll try and avoid easy odds-on shots when we can! All odds are taken from William Hill.

Leeds United (15/8) to beat Bolton Wanderers

The Steve Evans bandwagon is very much in motion with the Elland Road club. He has said all of the right things so far and he has managed to turn a negative situation into a huge positive. He oversaw the 1-1 draw with Fulham on Wednesday night and already there were plenty of positive signs coming out of that game. They probably should have won and thankfully for them, Chris Wood looks like being fit to start. Bolton today have signed Shola Ameobi but that probably isn’t going to be the answer to all of their problems. They will stop their run of games without a win eventually, but is Leeds the team they want to be facing right now? There is only positive things coming out of Leeds, whereas there are plenty of negatives out of Bolton. 15/8 is a price that is shortening all of the time and is worth adding to our four-fold.

Derby County (23/20) to beat Huddersfield Town

0-0 away to Blackburn Rovers won’t excite too many but it was a solid point for Derby County. They were well below their best and in the end, it was a good result for them. Playing Huddersfield from a tactical perspective will suit Derby much, much more. They will get a little bit more time on the ball and they’ll be confident of keeping the likes of Wells, Miller, Bunn and Scannell quiet. Derby have the best defensive record away from home, keeping three clean sheets. They are scoring in patches of late and after a shutout against Blackburn, Huddersfield could feel the brunt of their frustrations. The Terriers are extremely inconsistent and whilst they looked good against MK Dons in the week, they could easily throw in a dodgy performance in this match. We’ll back Derby for this one.

Burton Albion (11/10) to beat Port Vale

We take out first dip into League One for this selection. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s men may be three games without a win and three games without a goal, but they are third for a reason. 0-0 at home to bottom of the table Crewe was majorly disappointing for Burton. There is a bit of a punt element to this selection as we’re basically backing Burton to get their act back together! A few weeks ago, there is no way Burton would’ve been 11/10 to beat Port Vale at home. Burton don’t score many goals anyway, but they are usually strong at the back, with the exception of the 4-0 defeat to Fleetwood recently. Hasselbaink could well go back to basics to stop this poor run of form. Port Vale are the art of inconsistency in League One. They are now three without a win, but were unbeaten in three prior to that. They don’t concede too many on their travels, but score very few. Won’t be many goals in this, but Burton are the more convincing outfit and we’ll give them a chance.

Walsall (13/10) to beat Colchester United

We’re skipping League Two altogether this week as there are plenty of odds-on shots that probably don’t deserve to be, meaning there is little value. We’ll stick with League One and we’ll be backing Walsall to defeat Colchester on Saturday afternoon. Walsall ended many accumulators at the weekend when losing at home to Chesterfield, but they got back to winning ways in midweek when winning 2-0 away to Barnsley. Walsall have the best away record in League One, fact. They have the best defence and have scored double figure goals already. At home, teams defend in numbers and give them plenty of respect, away from home, teams will fancy their chances. The likes of Tom Bradshaw will love that fact as it will give them plenty of spaces to expose. Colchester will go for the win, make no mistake about that. They did lose three in a row prior to beating Port Vale in the week, but Walsall are a stern test for League One clubs nowadays. There are usually goals in Colchester matches, indicating they play an open style. Therefore, that should play into Walsall’s hands and we’ll back them at a decent price.

A £10 stake on the above selection would return a healthy return in the region of £290! Feel free to use these selections at your own risk, or if you don’t have any faith in our tips, why not back all of the other four teams! A £10 stake on those sides would return approximately £960!

Enjoy the Football League this weekend and remember, gamble responsibly or not at all.
