Doncaster Rovers have announced the appointment of Darren Ferguson as their new manager on their official website. The 43-year-old replaces Paul Dickov, who was sacked earlier this season.
The former Peterborough United manager, who twice won promotion out of League Two, has signed a one-year rolling contract at the Keepmoat Stadium. Chairman David Blunt revealed that the club received up to 70 applications for the vacant position. Ferguson will take charge of his first game tomorrow at home to Bradford City. Ferguson was pleased to be trusted with the role and is exciting to be back in football,
“I’m delighted to be here, it’s an exciting challenge. It’s a sound football club and my aims match those of the board.
Being out for six months gives you time to reflect, learn and take that in to your next job. League One (this season) is anyone’s.”

Ferguson has already installed big ambitions for the club and believes mounting a promotion challenge isn’t out of the question this season,
“The aim is top six. Until I work day in day out with the players I’ve got, it’s a slightly difficult question to answer. Sheffield United have a big budget and Wigan but other than that it’s anyone’s division.”
It has also been revealed that current caretaker boss Rob Jones will go back to his role with the Under-21 side, but he will also have an involvement with the first-team. Ferguson plans on adding one new name to the coaching staff in the near future.
Ferguson insists that fans want entertainment, so Doncaster Rovers fans should be excited by this appointment. He also wants his new team to ‘express themselves’, even more so in an attacking sense. It was also revealed that he will have funds in January to strengthen the squad.
