league two, Saturday’s League Two betting preview

Saturday’s League Two betting preview

There are eleven League Two matches to focus on this weekend. The league table is beginning to take shape but there are still 35 games for each side to improve on their current standings. Out of the 132 League Two matches so far this season, there have been 48 home wins and 48 away wins. We have managed to pick some decent picks from three matches, with all odds taken from our designated bookmaker BeanBagSports.

Barnet v Accrington Stanley (Saturday 3pm)

Barnet are very much a chalk and cheese type of team. Away from home they have lost every single game so far this season, offering the worst defence and scoring only five goals. On the flip side, their home form is more than decent. If the league table was determined on home results alone, Barnet would be fifth! Defensively they are very strong at home too, making them difficult to beat and really suited their style of play. With Accrington, they aren’t so much chalk and cheese but are really consistent. Interestingly they have the second best away record in the entire division, conceding only two goals. They are unbeaten in their last four away matches as well. Clearly they set up to be hard to beat on their travels, which is something Barnet may want to attempt! Therefore, everything is pointing towards under 2.5 goals at 10/11, which is a great price considering the defensive record of both teams. Barnet clearly place a big emphasis on picking up results at The Hive and they are certainly comfortable playing there. Accrington’s defensive approach is risky, as they’ll invite plenty of pressure. With that being the case, the price of 7/10 for Barnet to win either half certainly has plenty of potential.

Oxford United v AFC Wimbledon (Saturday 3pm)

Oxford have been one of the standout teams in League Two this season. Supporters at the Kassam Stadium have been desperately frustrated with their team for a few seasons now, but Michael Appleton is really starting to get something out of them. Eleven games in and they sit inside the play-off places, thanks to their consistent nature. They are simply a very solid side and there aren’t too many weaknesses. They entertain AFC Wimbledon, a side who side three points below Oxford in the table and are another relatively consistent outfit. Looking ahead to this game, there is a lot that would persuade most to back an Oxford victory. They are unbeaten at home and have the strongest defensive record on their own turf. The visitors are without a win in four on the road but they have drawn just over 36% of their league games so far this season. They have only failed to score in one away match and Oxford have a tendency to struggle against sides that are tricky to beat like AFC Wimbledon are. Both teams to score at 5/6 is appealing, as is the draw full time result at 19/8.

Exeter City v Stevenage (Saturday 3pm)

Teddy Sheringham is certainly learning the difficulties of football management. They have lost four league games on the spin and were knocked out of the JPT at home to Dagenham & Redbridge this week. Afterwards, Sheringham went on to question the commitment of some of his players. Earlier this season, he described one performance as ‘woeful’. Whilst that bad run will end at some stage, Exeter isn’t necessarily the ideal destination to seek some improvement in that. Although Exeter have only won one of their last four League One games, three of those were away from home. They actually possess the third best home record in the division, earning three clean sheets in five matches in the process. On the other hand, Stevenage have kept one clean sheet all season, that being at home. Only four teams have a worse scoring record than them as well. Sheringham is clearly trying to spark a reaction out of his players with his public criticism, but that approach doesn’t work on the flick on a switch. They could bounce back or crumble even more. Exeter could leap into the play-offs with a victory, whilst Stevenage could potentially drop into the bottom two. An Exeter victory at 20/21 seems like banker material this week, and the Exeter to win to nil at 5/2 is another great price.
