This weekend’s League Two betting preview

We understand that betting on League Two presents something of a challenge for the average punt, but fear not, we’re here to help! We’ll be focusing on three key games from tomorrow’s action and providing betting tips along the way. Odds are taken from our designated bookmaker BeanBagSports.

Accrington Stanley v Oxford United (Saturday 3pm)

It has been a tremendous start to the season by Accrington Stanley. No longer can anyone say “who are they” anymore! John Coleman has been back at the club in his second spell for a little while now and he finally looks as though he can push a potential promotion bid this season. They boast the best home record in the division, winning three and remaining unbeaten in all five. They are on a four game winning streak and are collectively unbeaten in eight. Everything points to an Accrington win, right? Well, not necessarily. They welcome an Oxford side that too have started the season strongly and also occupy a play-off place. They are just a consistent side, which is something they’ve not been able to say for a good few seasons now. There away games are generally tight affairs and both sides have only been in three games with over 2.5 goals. Therefore, we’ll back the two or three total match goals at 5/6. Accrington have only kept one home clean sheet so far and Oxford one away clean sheet so far. Early season stats like that can be deceiving to a degree but both teams to score at 4/5 to a solid price. Finally we’ll try to add a bit of value and such is the unpredictable nature of League Two, we’ll back Oxford to get the result here. A 2-1 victory is available at 17/2.

Recommended tips: Both teams to score (4/5)…..two or three total match goals (5/6)…..                      Oxford to win 2-1 (17/2)

Wycombe Wanderers v Northampton Town (Saturday 3pm)

Northampton Town boss Chris Wilder has been linked with a return to former club Rotherham United to be their next manager. Although that appears unlikely to happen, he must be doing something right to get that sort of attention. He is slowly starting to get Northampton to a place he wants them to be. They are unbeaten in four and sit inside the top half. Wycombe couldn’t be better placed as they sit top of the summit in League Two. They are unbeaten in three, but it is their away record which has seen them excel so far this season. At home they have started drop points such as the defeat to Plymouth and draw with Dagenham & Redbridge. They still boost the fourth best home record, but they can chuck in the odd dodgy result. The Cobblers have only lost one away game so far and recently scored four at Morecambe. Backing them to be ahead at half time priced 25/8 is an interest. Both teams to score in generously priced at 5/6 when it really should be a little lower than this. Wycombe may have kept two clean sheets on the bounce but these teams are in League Two for a reason and they’ll ship a goal eventually. Nine of the last ten meetings have seen both teams scoring. Our last selection on this game surrounds the goals market. Wycombe are creating plenty of chances but not always taking them. Eventually they’ll come good and perhaps being behind at half time is the kick-start they truly need. Backing over 1.5 Wycombe goals at 6/5 is decent value.

Recommended tips: Northampton to win first half (25/8)…..both teams to score (5/6)…..                 Wycombe to score over 1.5 goals (6/5)

Leyton Orient v Notts County (Saturday 3pm)

Both teams were relegated from League One last season and both understandable were amongst the favourites to be promoted straight back up at the first attempt. Both of these teams typically typify what being a League Two team can be like. Leyton Orient started the season so strongly, winning their first five games, but their next five has seen them not win once. Notts County lost three of their first game matches, and then won three of their next five. This is a tricky game to predict but based on recent form, the onus is with Notts County. A Notts County win at 13/4 sees them significantly under-rated and a small bet has to be placed on this outcome. Ricardo Moniz’s summer signings, such as Izale McLeod, are starting to really gel. Leyton Orient are at least still scoring goals but aren’t keeping clean sheets. Both teams to score at 4/5 again seems a very strong pick. Leyton Orient have failed to score inside the first half in seven League games so far this season, which is a significant statistic. Notts County have scored the first goal in their last four matches, so a tentative pick on a 1-0 Notts County half time lead at 5/1 is worth considering based on the facts alone.

Recommended tips: Notts County to win (13/4)…..both teams to score (4/5)…..                                        Notts County to win first half 1-0 (5/1)
