Average Football League admission price revealed

The Football League website has today issued the average price of a Football League match ticket. Analysis from the 2014/15 Official Gate Statements submitted by clubs has allowed them to reach a conclusion.

£14.08 to be precise was the average price of admission to Football League fixtures last season. To put it more specifically, again on average; the Championship cost £15.65 per game; League One at £11.72 per game; and finally League Two was £11.58 per game.

The Club Gates Statement also revealed that collectively all of the 72 clubs earned in excess of £213m of combined gate receipts and over 15m tickets altogether. Not included in that end amount were the free 1.3m tickets issued to youngsters attending their first ever live football match.

Also included in the end amount were costs paid by season ticket holders, non-season ticket holders, away supporters and fans located in hospitality and corporate areas of stadiums. The result is based purely on adult and concessionary ticket prices.

Football League Chief Executive Shaun Harvey believes that the analysis proves that watching Football League matches provides a worthy matchday experience for all,

“These figures show that, on the whole, Football League clubs continue to offer value for money to their supporters.

Ticket pricing will always be an emotive subject and any debate about whether fans are getting a good deal clearly has to take account of what fans are paying across the board rather than purely focusing on selected prices that they could be asked to pay in certain circumstances.”

It was no surprise to see that £10million of the overall admissions to game come purely from season ticket holders. The range of different ticket offers clubs provide still means that this is the best value for money route to watching their team play. Harvey said that unfortunately prices for those attending one-off games will be charged more value wise,

“The inevitable consequence of offering such good value to these fans at one end of the spectrum is that those fans at the other end, such as those paying on the day for a single match, will be asked to pay more.”
