Key Swindon striker ruled out for 2 months

Swindon Town manager Mark Cooper has informed the Gazette & Herald that striker Wes Thomas is out of action for up to eight weeks. He suffered a torn hamstring in Saturday’s defeat to Colchester United.

The 28-year-old, who is on loan from Championship side Birmingham City, scored in the 2-1 defeat at the County Ground but only lasted 27 minutes before being replaced by Jermaine Hylton. Although forwards Nicky Ajose and Jonathan Obika scored in last night’s 2-2 draw at Doncaster Rovers, Cooper doesn’t have too many options available to him up front. Speaking after the draw at the Keepmoat, Cooper revealed the extend of the damage to Cooper,

“He’s a proper number nine, these things happen.

(Wes has a) grade two hamstring tear so that’s going to be six to eight weeks.

That is football and we have to deal with it.”

Thomas has struggled to really settle down throughout his career, having six loan spells and a series of short, permanent spells with a number of Football League clubs. He had started his Swindon career in positive fashion, scoring two goals in four appearances. The spell on the treatment table is an obvious set back but he’ll be hoping to get back fit well below the hectic Christmas schedule.
