MK Dons snap up former Cardiff striker

Championship side MK Dons have snapped up ex-Cardiff and West Ham striker Nicky Maynard on a short-term deal according to various sources including the BBC. 28-year old Maynard was released by Cardiff at the end of last season.

Whilst he has signed in time to possibly play a part in the Capitol One Cup game against Southampton on Wednesday, this is thought a step too ambitious for the player. Speaking on the club website, MK Don’s manager Karl Robinson said that he was pleased with the capture of such a high-profile player. Robinson said of Maynard’s capture, “I’m really pleased we have got him and I think the fans will be pleased that we can get players of his quality through the door,” before adding caution that a place in the side was still some time away. Hinting that the player wasn’t quite ready to play a part, Robinson added, “The league is ruthless and it will take him a little while to fully get up to speed so we need to be patient.”

In Maynard, the MK Dons have a tried and trusted player at Championship level and one who has played 170 Championship games, scoring 54 goals and providing 20 assists with the goals coming at the rate of one per 217 minutes of play. He also has 31 goals in 58 appearances in League One, more than suggesting that MK Dons have a player in their ranks who will provide them with goals.
