Chaplin to stay at Portsmouth

Conor Champlin has signed a contract extension at Portsmouth, as announced on Portsmouth’s official site. The 18-year-old has been in good form this season, scoring four goals this campaign, having graduated from the League Two side’s youth system.

His new contract will keep him at Fratton Park until 2018. The highly rated forward has played 18 games for Pompey but has shown his promise in the new campaign. Arguably, his most impressive moment was scoring the winning goal against Derby County in August, The Blues saw off their Championship opponents in the Capital One Cup and lie second in the League Two table.

Chaplin said of the contract extension: “I’m delighted to have extended my contract – it’s probably the best thing that has happened to me.

“I’ve never made any secret of the fact that I want to play my football with Pompey and it means everything to know I will be here for another three years.
“I was always confident of scoring goals at this level, but I just never quite expected it to happen so quickly.”
Chaplin eluded to the fact that the club is his home. He went on to say: “Although I come from Worthing, I have been here since I was a small kid and know everything there is to know about the club.
“When the fans sing ‘He’s one of our own’ about me, I get goosebumps, as I really am Pompey through and through.”
