Crocombe swaps Oxford for Barnet in loan move

Oxford United goalkeeper Max Crocombe has joined League Two rivals Barnet on loan. The official Barnet website also confirms that it is a one-month deal.

Barnet currently have something of a goalkeeping crisis with Graham Stack and Jamie Stephens currently on the treatment table. Therefore, 22-year-old Crocombe could make his debut as early as tomorrow, when his new side entertain Teddy Sheringham’s Stevenage at The Hive.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail, Oxford manager Michael Appleton felt that allowing the New Zealand international will benefit from a run of games,

“We have spoken a few times about the need for Max to play games at this stage in his development and this is the ideal opportunity for him to show what he can do.”

Crocombe hasn’t featured for Oxford since last season’s penalty shoot-out defeat to Premier League side West Bromwich Albion in the Capital One Cup. That is one of only four appearances he has made for the Kassam Stadium club since signing in 2012. He spent the tail end of the last campaign on loan at Nuneaton Town, where he failed to concede a goal in his first six games.

In March of this year he was called up to the New Zealand senior squad for their friendly against South Korea. He has a handful of caps representing his nation at Under-20 and Under-23 age groups, and also featured in the 2013 Under 20 World Cup in Turkey.
