Henry in Wolves contract extension talks

The Shropshire Star is today reporting that Wolverhampton Wanderers have started contract talks with midfield James Henry. So far he has been one of their top performers of the season so far.

The 26-year-old was touted as a potential signing by Championship rivals Charlton Athletic and boss Kenny Jackett is understandably keen to tie him down to a longer deal. The former Millwall man’s current contract expires at the end of this season, along with the likes of Kevin McDonald and Matt Doherty. However Henry believes signing an extension will be the best thing for him and his family,

“We’ve started talking so hopefully in the next couple of weeks we can get it sorted. The security’s a big theme and once that’s sorted it’ll be a little bit of weight lifted off my shoulders.

But at the moment it’s not an issue, I’m just enjoying my football.”

Henry has started all six of Wolves’ games in the Championship this season and only failed to appear in one of their 38 league games in the last campaign. Although he received interest from other clubs, Henry insists he never came close to leaving and believes his on the field performances have been solid,

“I didn’t come particularly close to leaving. There were a few rumours but nothing materialised for whatever reason.

I’m still a Wolves player and that’s the main thing at the end of the day. I’ll hopefully push on and get that new contract and stay at Wolves.

I feel my performances have been good, I just need to carry that on now. I can’t rest on my laurels.”

It has been an up and down start to the season by the Molineux club. Henry and his teammates will be hoping to get back to winning ways tomorrow when they entertain top of the table Brighton & Hove Albion.
